Music Ministry

God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.  Sing to the Lord!  Music is Divine Worship.

The Collaborative of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Ann by the Sea is a continuation of decades of tradition of praising God through song.

Cantors and choir members are volunteers who offer their gifts in service to our parishes and participate in ongoing training and rehearsals.  Is there a place for me or members of my family?  Yes, everyone has a place.  Can't read music?  No worries.  Let us teach you how.  Never sang in a choir before?  No time like the present to come join our music family.  Play an instrument?  Fabulous!  Let us know.  We would love you to harmonize with our other instruments.

Singing and music have been central to our tradition and history. Most importantly, each and every worshipper is encouraged to engage in sung participation in the liturgy.

Contact us if you are interested in joining our ministry.

Altar Server

Boys and girls in the collaborative in Grade 3 and older, are invited to participate in the liturgical celebrations in the special role of altar servers.  Training sessions are provided on a regular basis.

Altar servers are integral to the liturgical life of the Catholic Church, performing essential duties that enhance the worship experience and contribute to the overall reverence of the Mass. Their role is not only functional but also deeply spiritual.

Please contact the parish office if your son/daughter is interested in becoming an altar server.

Baptism Preparation

Whether the Sacrament of Baptism is received by an infant, an older child, or an adult, this sacrament is the one that initiates a person into the life of the Church and is a gateway to the other sacraments.

Baptism is the sacrament by which a person is first identified as a Christian.  It opens the person to the fullness of the life of grace mediated by the Church.

Preparatory classes are required of parents before their child can be baptized.

Godparents must be confirmed Catholics who are in good standing with the Church. If a Godparent is not a registered member at either Our Lady of the Assumption or St. Ann by the Sea, they must provide a Letter of Good Standing from their parish.  At least one of the Godparents must be Catholic. A non-Catholic is considered to be a Christian witness.

Baptisms are held once a month.

  • 1st Sunday of the month at 11:00a at St. Ann by the Sea
  • 2nd Sunday of the month at 12:00p at Our Lady of the Assumption

If your child is 7 or older, please contact the Pastor at 781-834-6252.

Adults who would like to become members of the Church, and have not previously been baptized, are invited to enroll in the parish’s OCIA classes (click here for more information on OCIA)and should contact the parish office to speak with the Pastor.

Please complete the Baptism Form and email it to info@olamarshfield.org.

Adult baptisms take place each year at the Easter Vigil.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Bishops, priests, deacons and installed acolytes are the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and therefore are always the first to help distribute Communion at a Mass at which they are present.

When these ordinary ministers are not available, commissioned Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion may assist with the distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful.  When necessary, priests serving in the Collaborative of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Ann by the Sea have been granted the faculty “to appoint, for a given occasion, a fit person to distribute communion in cases of genuine necessity.”

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are to be fully initiated Catholics, i.e., received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, and be at least 16 years of age. They should regularly attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.  If the Extraordinary Minister is married, the marriage must be one recognized by the Church. As well, they are encouraged to frequently participate in the sacraments.

Guidelines for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Readers

When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel. Therefore, the readings from the Word of God are to be listened to reverently by everyone, for they are an element of the greatest importance in the Liturgy. Although in the readings from Sacred Scripture the Word of God is addressed to all people of whatever era and is understandable to them, a fuller understanding and a greater efficaciousness of the word is nevertheless fostered by a living commentary on the word, that is, by the Homily, as part of the liturgical action.

All Catholics in good standing, fully initiated in the Church (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) who are aware of proper diction when reading, are eligible to participate in the Lector Ministry.  Readers must be at least 16 years of age.  They should regularly attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.  If the Reader is married, the marriage must be one recognized by the Church.  As well, they are encouraged to frequently participate in the sacraments.  A reader must fully embrace the words and prayers that are offered in Mass.  They should possess full knowledge of the Order of Mass.  A reader must we willing to prepare for the readings through prayer, study and practice.

Parishioners interested in becoming readers should notify the Parish Office and be instructed on the proper attire, correct use of the microphone, and how to proclaim the Word of God.

Guidelines for Readers

If you would like to become part of this ministry, please contact the Parish Office.

Sacristans

The Ministry of the Sacristan provides vital services to the parish community by preparing the Church and Sanctuary for each liturgical celebration.  This ministry provides the individual volunteer with the opportunity not only to offer a valuable service to Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Ann by the Sea but also to grow a closer relationship with Our Lord in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

Finance Council

The Parish Finance Council is a consultative body of parishioners who assist the pastor in the administration of the goods of the parish and ensure accountability to the Archbishop and parishioners.   Parish council members are unique to the parish, i.e. Our Lady of the Assumption or St. Ann by the Sea, not to the Collaborative.

Usher

As Ministers of Liturgical Hospitality, ushers welcome and assist parishioners at weekend liturgies and other special functions.  This ministry emphasizes greeting parishioners when they enter the church, assisting them to their seats if necessary, taking up the collections, and distributing the parish bulletins.

Eucharistic Adoration

"I understand that, each time we contemplate with desire and devotion the Host in which is hidden Christ's Eucharistic Body, we increase our merits in heaven and secure special joys to be ours later in the beatific vision of God."   St. Gertrude

Whenever we receive Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist, we make communion with Him as He enters our souls and nourishes us with His own divine life. Another special way we can encounter Jesus in the Eucharist is through adoration.

In Eucharistic Adoration, we place the Blessed Sacrament in a gold monstrance on the altar and gaze upon His hidden face. Whether we bring our requests to Him, praise Him for His love and mercy, or simply rest in His presence, adoration is time when God waits for you to come to Him just as you are. We always leave differently after we spend time with Him in Adoration!

Please join us whether it’s for 10 minutes or an hour every Friday morning following the 8:00a Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption!

May you encounter the presence, peace, and love of Jesus when you spend time with Him in adoration!

Adoration is every Friday morning at Our Lady of the Assumption  following the 8:00a Mass until 9:00a.

Divine Mercy Devotion

The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us – all of us. And, He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed the second Sunday of each month at 3:00p.  Please check our bulletin to see which parish is hosting the prayer service.

Bereavement Ministry

This ministry offers assistance to parish members after the death of  a loved one.

Friends, we do not grieve alone or without hope. We have God’s Word to keep us grounded and give us hope. We also have God’s presence and the support of His people to comfort us. Through His Word, His Spirit, and His people – the Lord bears our burden of grief and walks with us each day.

The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, the Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to "help our neighbor in their spiritual needs

The Bereavement Ministry meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00p in the parish hall at Our Lady of the Assumption.

Please contact the parish office and speak to our Pastoral Associate for more information.

Liturgical Linen Service

Ministers gather soiled alter linens from the church sacristy, bring them home to launder and dry, starch and iron, then return them to the sacristy.

The celebration of the Liturgy and Eucharist is the foundation of our faith. The laundering of these linens is a vital task in the serving of our priest and parish.  Ministers like to give back to their life-long church, priests and community and consider it a 'labor of love.'

Prayer Shawl Ministry

You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, so wonderfully you made me; wonderful are your works!”
– Psalm 139:13-14

Through the work of their hands and the prayers in their hearts, members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry provide hope, comfort, and healing to those who most need a reminder of God’s love for them. This ministry consists of parishioners who share their time and talent to create shawls and lap robes that are then presented to those in need of comfort.

In the spirit of caring for our community at Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Ann by the Sea, it is an opportunity to literally take someone in "need" and enfold them in our arms in love and prayer. We offer our consolation and support. We are saying to them -- we are with you always.

Making a Prayer Shawl is a great means to begin this craft, and another way to share your faith with others!!!!!

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month at St. Ann by Sea parish hall from 10-11a.  For more information, please contact Judy Hill 781-837-5139.

New members are most welcome!

Men of St. Joseph

The Men of St. Joseph is an association of Christian men, united under the Catholic Church, who meet weekly to pray together and encourage each other to be the spiritual leaders of their families. The purpose of the Men of St. Joseph is to inspire and equip men to be spiritual leaders in their homes. Some might say our goal is a bit "lofty": become stronger in our relationship with Christ and in our faith so we can help get ourselves and our families to heaven. It's a bold purpose, but in the end what else really matters?

All men ages 18+ are welcome to meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30p-7:30p at St. Ann by the Sea Parish Hall.

If you are interested in joining please contact the parish hall or just join a meeting!

Women at the Well and Donuts with Jesus

These men (Donuts with Jesus) and women (Women at the Well) groups meet the last Saturday of each month following the 8:00a Mass in the parish hall at Our Lady of the Assumption for scripture and faith sharing.  This is a great way to lead men and women to a more authentic and loving relationship with Christ.  It's a great way to make new friends too!

New members are welcome!

Rosary in the Park

The rosary for life is publicly prayed each month at the Marshfield Police Station on a Saturday (usually second Saturday).  Please check our bulletin for exact date and time.

All are welcome to join!

  • Lord God, Father of all life, we praise and honor you. We thank you for the gift of life that in your great love you have graciously bestowed on us.

Gather the Church of Boston to yourself so that we might be transformed by Your Light.
Strengthen us that we may be willing always to speak and to act on behalf of the sacredness of all life. Guide and inspire us by the Holy Spirit with wisdom, mercy, love and patient endurance.

United with Mary our Mother, all the angels and saints, we ask you to bring about conversion in all whose acts and policies lead to the destruction of life.

We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
    Amen.

Prayer Warriors

Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Ann by the Sea Prayer Warriors are a dedicated group of parishioners who offer up the intentions of others in their daily prayers. Any prayer request one makes will be sent to the Prayer Angels, and all can be assured their requests will be known to God. Members believe in the power of prayer.

Membership is open to anyone who enjoys praying for the needs of others. There are no meetings – members submit their email addresses and when a prayer request is received, it is forwarded via email. Members include the intentions in their daily prayers.

Anyone interested in participating as a Prayer Warrior should contact the parish office.

Offertory Counters

The offertory counter ministry is a committee of dedicated people who record and count the Sunday offerings each week and monies raised at special fundraising events.

Flowers and Grounds

Working in collaboration with the landscaper, our Flowers and Grounds Committee work to beautify the church grounds. They populate the planters seasonally and maintain the various flower beds. The appearance of our grounds should reflect the never-ending, always present Glory of God.

A neat, welcoming and appealing entrance and grounds benefit us ALL by uplifting our moods as we enter the church. Beautifying our place of worship shows appreciation to God for his many gifts!

Please contact the parish office if you would like to help.

Arts and Environment

Each parish has a committee that decorates our worship space for the liturgical seasons of Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, and maintain the beautification of the altar throughout Ordinary Time.

In enhancing and beautifying our worship space, we are paying proper homage to our heavenly Father, who shares the beauty of His world with us every day!

The focus is during the liturgical holidays... Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas.

Please contact the parish office if your would like to share your talents.

Hospitality Committee

The Hospitality Committees serve our parishes by providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for all guests. They support the many social events that happen in our parishes by donating and/or serving food and refreshments. They are also responsible for setting up, maintaining and post- cleaning of events.

Committee members are provided with a purpose to serve others while enjoying a social gathering. It is rewarding to be able to create opportunities for parishioners to gather together in fellowship.

Please contact the parish office if you would like to join the Hospitality Committee.
