Tell Them Award

Tell Them Award

Mary Counihan "Tell Them” Award

Mary P. Counihan was a tireless teacher and advocate for the youth of Our Lady of the Assumption parish. For decades, and continuing in the midst of a battle with cancer, she valiantly carried out her vocation to wife, mother, friend and teacher. Mary passed from this life on December 20, 2022.

In a world filled with uncertainty and challenges, it is imperative that our youth be firmly rooted in Christ before they can truly make a lasting impact.  In the book of Colossians, Paul commended the Colossians for their love, faith, and hope in Jesus even without supervision from leaders.  Our hope is that as our youth move forward to higher education, they become firmly established in their faith to make a significant impact not only in their own lives but also in the lives of those around them.

When she was near death, Mary was asked what we should teach the future students.  She answered, “Tell them about the Eucharist”.  She wanted students to know that the Eucharist is truly the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ and is present at each and every Mass.

The Counihan award seeks to honor Christ’s teaching by supporting a student who exemplifies love, compassion, and servant leadership. It aims to empower students who actively contribute to a Christ-centered community.

High School seniors can apply for the Counihan Award by clicking on the scholarship form below.

In recognition of her dedicated service, please help us to continue funding the Counihan “Tell Them” Award at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.

We hope you will prayerfully consider a gift to encourage the youth of our parish and make them men and women who will tell the world about the goodness of the Eucharistic Christ.
